SOURDOUGH BREAD

4 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
¼ teaspoon soda
1 large or 2 small eggs
Use all but ½ cup of the starter

Mix ingredients together and kneed until dough is soft and smooth. Let rise in a warm place until double in bulk. Punch down and Let rise again. Punch down and then divide dough in half and mold each half into a loaf that should fill approximately ½ the pan. You can also shape into a large round ball and place on a cookie sheet.

Allow loaves rise in the pans until double in bulk. Bake 375 F for 50 to 60 minutes. Makes two large loaves or three small ones.
