SPICY BEANS 1 pound navy beans 6 cups water 1 cup dark brown sugar firmly packed 1 tablespoon salt ½ teaspoon dry mustard ¼ teaspoon ground cloves 2 tablespoons minced onions 5 oz. salt pork, cut into bite sized pieces Wash beans under warm water, removing dirt, sand, rocks and any undesirable beans or floating fragments. Mix all ingredients together and place in a large crock pot. Cook on low 10-12 hours or over night. Test the beans. Fresh beans cook faster. If your beans are old, allow more time to cook. If the beans seem dry, add more water during the cooking process if needed. |
