SHEPHERD'S PIE

1 pound of hamburger
1 medium onion, chopped fine
1 (16 oz.) can of corn, drained
1 (16 oz.) can of green beans, drained
1/2 teaspoon dried basil, as desired
1/4 teaspoon powdered garlic
1 pint chopped tomatoes or two (10 oz.) cans tomato soup
Note: If you use tomato soup - add 1 can of water. Simmer together for about 5 minutes. )
Salt to taste.
4-5 cups mashed potatoes 2 cups cheddar cheese, grated

Brown hamburger and onion together. Drain off fat. Add remaining ingredients except the cheese and mashed potatoes. Mixture should be thick but not too soupy . Pour into a deep glass casserole dish and spread mashed potatoes over the top - about 1/2 inch thick or just enough potatoes to cover hamburger mixture. Sprinkle with two cups of grated cheddar cheese.

Bake 400 F. in the oven for 30-40 minutes or until slightly browned and cheese has melted or cover with a glass lid and heat in microwave 10-15 minutes until heated through and cheese has melted.
