| COLE DORMA 2 pounds hamburger 3 cups partially cooked rice, cooked only 10 minutes and any excess water drained off. 1 large onion, chopped ¼ inch pieces 1 teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon pepper 1 head cabbage, cut in fourths and the core removed 2-3 cups water 2-3 teaspoons butter Mix raw lean hamburger, onion, salt and pepper together with 3 cups partially boiled rice. In a large saucepan, steam cabbage in 3 cups boiling water until the leaves wilt, about 10 minutes. Separate the leaves and set the water the leaves were boiled with aside. Wrap rice and hamburger mixture in the cabbage leaves, forming individual portion sized balls. Arrange balls side by side in a heavy baking dish. Pour 2-3 cups water from the steamed cabbage over the top of the hamburger and rice balls. Dot with two or three teaspoons butter. Cover dish and bake in the oven 350 F for 40 minutes or until hamburger is cooked and rice is tender. Variations: 1- You can add a can of tomato soup to the cabbage water that is poured over the hamburger and rice balls. 2 - Also try browning one pound of sausage, draining the fat and then mixing it with one pound of lean raw hamburger to add with the rice. 3 - Substitute chopped mushrooms for hamburger |
