SUGAR COOKIES WITH SOUR CREAM

Preheat oven to 350 F.
Recipe requires two lightly greased 12x18 inch cookie sheets.

1 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon baking soda
4 teaspoons baking powder
5 cups white flour
½ teaspoon salt
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Stir in sour cream and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture.

Measure out half of the dough with a rubber spatula onto a lightly floured clean flat surface. Use only enough flour on the surface to keep the dough from sticking. The less flour you use the softer and more tender your cookies will be. Roll dough out to about 1/3 of an inch thick.

Cut into favorite shapes and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining dough, adding dough remnants from the first rolling to the next batch until all the dough is used.

Bake 10 minutes or until golden around the edges. Do not over-bake. The tops of the cookies should remain light in color.

Makes 2 ½ dozen cookies.
