STAINED GLASS COOKIES

3/4 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl, cream in margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Add combined dry
ingredients and mix well.

Chill 4 hours or over night.

Turn dough out onto a well floured surface and roll to 1/8 inch thickness (approximately). Cut with cookie cutters to desired shapes. You will need to keep patting flour on the dough and cookie cutter to prevent it from sticking.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 400 F. for 5 to 7 minutes.

After cookies are cool you can paint them with white karo syrup and a little food coloring using a water color brush. Color the syrup before you paint it on the cookie. If you intend to use these cookies for hanging decorations, be sure you cut a hole for the hanger before you bake them.
