MOLASSES COOKIES

Preheat oven to 350 F.
Recipe requires two 12x18 inch lightly greased cookie sheets.

2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ cup vegetable shortening
½ cup dark molasses
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons ground cloves
2 teaspoons ground ginger
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
4 teaspoons baking soda

In a large bowl, cream sugar, shortening, eggs, and molasses together. Sift dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture. Mold into dough balls the size of an egg and roll in sugar. Place balls on a cookie sheet and flatten with the bottom of a large cup or drinking glass to about 1/3 of an inch.

Bake 8 or 9 minutes. Frost and decorate. These make wonderful pumpkin-faced cookies for Halloween parties.
