OATMEAL DROP CANDY

1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 tablespoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup butter
½ cup milk
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 cup white sugar

In a glass bowl combine oatmeal, nuts, vanilla and salt and set aside.

In a small saucepan, bring butter, milk, cocoa and sugar to a boil. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally until mixture thickens and reaches the soft ball stage. Test by dropping a small amount of the candy into a cold glass of water. When it forms a soft chewy ball it is ready.

Pour over oatmeal mixture and continue to stir until candy begins to thicken. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a lightly buttered pan. Cool before serving.
