GRANNY'S FUDGE RECIPE

Have ready in advance a foil-lined 9x9” pan with foil lightly buttered.

4 cups white sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup butter
1 (13 oz.) can evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (12 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (7 oz.) jar marshmallow cream
1 ½ cups walnuts, chopped

In a large saucepan, dissolve sugar and margarine over low heat. Add milk. Stirring constantly, cook over low heat until it comes to the soft ball stage - when a small amount of syrup is dropped into a cup of cold water it forms a soft chewy ball.

Remove pan from heat and stir in vanilla and chocolate chips. Beat with a spoon until all the chips are melted. It will begin to set up and a slight crust will form when you briefly stop stirring. Add marshmallow cream. Whip and scrape candy from the sides of the pan until mixture is smooth. Test for forming of a slight grainy crust. Add nuts and mix well. Pour into foil-lined pan and allow fudge to cool before cutting.

For variety use raspberry or orange flavored marshmallow cream.
