When I was young, I overheard a conversation my mother was having with her friend. The friend’s new daughter-in-law had called and asked how to bake a particular casserole. She wanted to surprise her husband when he came home from work.
I’m sure the young bride was thinking how delighted he would be when she served him his favorite home-cooked meal. Mom’s friend gave her the recipe but assumed her daughter-in-law knew to cook the macaroni before adding it to the casserole - a minor detail she thought hardly worth mentioning. But minor details do make a difference - the difference between a successful casserole and one that looked and tasted like shards of glass.
